Software Engineer III, Hybrid - Avalon Healthcare Solutions

Lead scalable software development for Avalon Healthcare Solutions’ diagnostic intelligence platform. Drive complex projects, architecture, mentoring, and production reliability.

Description

  • Design and build scalable, high-quality software aligned with business objectives and technical direction
  • Manage complex features and projects from planning through implementation, testing, and release
  • Partner with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to establish technical requirements and deliver solutions
  • Help shape architectural decisions alongside principal engineers and architects
  • Coach junior and mid-level software engineers
  • Perform and facilitate code reviews
  • Resolve complex application and integration problems and support root-cause investigations
  • Engage in Agile SDLC practices, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives
  • Occasionally lead project coordination across technical work, schedules, and deliverables
  • Use knowledge of health plan operations and connected systems to inform technical decisions
  • Join the on-call rotation to maintain critical software systems and production reliability

Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java, Go, or TypeScript
  • Thorough knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, including query optimization and data modeling
  • Expertise with Git and source-control practices
  • Ability to configure and optimize development environments and engineering tools
  • Strong experience designing and integrating web services and APIs, including RESTful and event-driven systems
  • Comfort working in Linux-based environments
  • Comprehensive understanding of Agile practices and the complete software development lifecycle
  • Hands-on experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines with tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI
  • Practical experience using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong knowledge of secure coding, performance tuning, and system reliability
  • Experience mentoring junior and mid-level engineers
  • Experience participating in or shaping software architecture decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong collaboration, initiative, autonomy, receptiveness to feedback, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Preferred experience includes AWS, Azure, or GCP; React or Next.js; CSS/SASS, Material UI, or Bootstrap; JUnit, Jest, Mocha, or Playwright; HIPAA, PHI, or IIHI; and regulated industries or sensitive data
