Software Engineer I - Tampa, Florida (Hybrid)

Develop and support applications, integrations, and data solutions for Avalon Healthcare Solutions’ diagnostic intelligence platform. This hybrid role is eligible for remote work with quarterly travel to the Tampa office.

Description

  • Design, build, document, and maintain custom applications, portals, data exchanges, services, and integrations
  • Translate business requirements into comprehensive technical design documentation
  • Evaluate solution options with business and technical stakeholders and recommend suitable designs
  • Create and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical models, including diagrams, data dictionaries, and logical flow charts
  • Prepare unit and regression test plans and support the development of functional test plans
  • Administer applications and provide ongoing operational support
  • Investigate, triage, and resolve application and integration problems
  • Record and monitor product defects, then implement corrective solutions
  • Write complex, modular, reusable application code backed by SQL data sources
  • Use enterprise software design patterns and maintain application object inventories
  • Apply established database design practices, including developing complex queries and updating tables
  • Work within Avalon’s Agile SDLC and change management frameworks
  • Help define coding standards and participate in code reviews
  • Deliver and maintain software solutions supporting company operations around the clock, every day of the year
  • Partner with technical and business stakeholders and obtain required approvals

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent relevant business and technical experience
  • An advanced degree is preferred
  • Application development experience with several of the following: Jetty, Apache Camel, Drools or other rules engines, Red Hat Linux, SoapUI, Postman, Docker, AWS EC2, ECS/Fargate, AWS SQS, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, and AWS Lambda
  • SQL Query Language experience, with T-SQL preferred
  • Experience or working knowledge of middleware and integration architecture, including SOA, web services, SOAP/WSDL/XML, REST, SAML, APIs, and microservices
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Experience working within an Agile software development environment
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver and support high-quality solutions on schedule
  • Healthcare knowledge or industry experience is preferred
  • Strong experience with SOAP and RESTful web services
  • Experience integrating rules engines and BRMS with XML messages
  • Experience working in AWS or another cloud-based environment
  • Experience planning, developing, and deploying high-volume, mission-critical healthcare software applications
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and related security, privacy, and transaction standards, including PHI and IIHI
