Senior SRE Database Administrator, Hybrid — Cisco

Description

  • Keep production services scalable, resilient, performant, and secure
  • Maintain uptime through on-call coverage, monitoring, and alerts aligned with SLOs and SLAs
  • Run disaster recovery drills and manage incidents, from root-cause analysis through remediation and follow-up improvements
  • Set reliability and security requirements for systems and components
  • Automate recurring work and reduce points of failure
  • Create tools and methods to detect product, process, and reliability issues early
  • Use established practices and business context to improve products and services
  • Work with cross-functional partners to gather input and deliver work
  • Design and deploy moderately complex solutions that improve reliability, availability, latency, and performance
  • Build automated platforms using design, deployment, and coding skills
  • Design and test high-availability and disaster recovery measures across regions and customers
  • Forecast resource needs and prepare capacity reports
  • Build infrastructure monitoring and performance visibility tools
  • Partner with development and operations teams to identify issues
  • Join the SRE on-call rotation and lead postmortems and root-cause investigations
  • Build and validate security controls in system designs
  • Coordinate with security teams on controls and, when needed, support security incident response
  • Coach and assist less experienced colleagues

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline
  • At least seven years of technical experience with cloud databases
  • Experience with vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, or Milvus, and/or at least two of PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB
  • Experience using AI frameworks such as the OpenAI API and LangChain
  • Experience designing, administering, and maintaining vector or cloud database architecture, including provisioning, upgrades, operations, backups, security, and performance
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and frameworks such as Git or GitHub and Jenkins
  • Experience automating database tasks with Python
  • Experience with database lifecycle management
  • Preferred: experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, or container technologies such as Kubernetes and OpenShift
  • Preferred: Python backend experience or other programming skills
  • Preferred: experience building scalable databases on hybrid cloud infrastructure
