Senior Scala Developer (Hybrid) - Maryland

Build Scala- and Java-based RESTful APIs for Sparksoft Corporation’s federal government clients. Help deliver reliable digital services through testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Description

  • Translate technical specifications and project requirements into configured software components
  • Develop Scala- and Java-based RESTful APIs that meet functional needs and support scalable performance
  • Work with Business Analysts to uncover design gaps and propose functional enhancements
  • Estimate effort for new features, enhancements, and change requests
  • Write and run unit tests to verify code quality and alignment with the design
  • Investigate and resolve defects and operational problems across development, staging, and production environments
  • Use appropriate technologies, methods, and tools to advance delivery and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience building enterprise software with Scala, Java, and JavaScript
  • Practical experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs, including integration and data exchange patterns
  • Backend or service-oriented development experience with Scala is required
  • Experience with Splunk for log analysis, monitoring, and performance investigation across multiple environments
  • Ability to create and execute unit tests and apply software testing best practices
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve defects in development, staging, and production environments
  • Ability to turn technical designs into high-quality software with careful attention to detail
  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative engineering team
  • Strong organization, time management, and multitasking abilities
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Must have resided in the United States for at least 3 of the past 5 years
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Experience with Federal Government, CMS, or highly regulated healthcare systems is preferred
  • Experience with REST- and Gradle-based application development, NoSQL databases, and Agile methods is preferred
  • AWS cloud certifications are preferred
