Senior Lead Data Engineer, Huron, Remote Illinois

Lead the development of scalable AWS data pipelines, APIs, and applications for Huron’s healthcare analytics platform. Provide technical direction and mentorship across data engineering initiatives.

Description

  • Estimate effort for changes to Insights applications and help shape implementation plans
  • Enhance application code, processes, and architecture to maintain high-quality solutions
  • Complete appropriate testing before releasing code to production
  • Investigate and resolve application defects and operational issues
  • Partner with engineers to deliver platform changes that address business requirements
  • Implement improvements that simplify processes and strengthen platform performance, availability, and functionality
  • Support project planning and capability roadmap development
  • Keep system and solution design documentation accurate and up to date
  • Train internal functional subject-matter experts and other stakeholders
  • Guide engineers delivering data solutions
  • Convert business and analytical requirements into dependable, scalable, production-ready data solutions
  • Build, deploy, operate, and maintain data pipelines, services, and applications
  • Establish technical standards, architectural patterns, and operational practices
  • Design scalable data workflows, APIs, processing logic, and supporting infrastructure
  • Collaborate with the Solution Architect while mentoring Data Engineers

Requirements

  • U.S. work authorization is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as mathematics, engineering, or computer science, or equivalent professional experience
  • Solid foundations in computer science
  • At least 6 years of professional software development experience
  • At least 6 years of professional experience with Python and SQL
  • At least 6 years of professional experience with cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services
  • Experience using version control systems, including Git or Subversion
  • Strong written and verbal communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Capacity to learn quickly
  • Ability to contribute effectively within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering and product team
  • Agile development and Scrum experience is preferred
  • PostgreSQL experience is preferred
  • Data Build Tool (DBT) experience is preferred
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, such as CloudFormation, is preferred
  • Experience with UNIX-based operating systems is preferred
  • Experience with Snowflake, CloudFront, API Gateway/Lambda, ECS, Application Load Balancer, EC2, S3, VPC, and related technologies is preferred
  • Git experience is preferred
  • Experience developing analytics-driven applications is preferred
  • Experience with healthcare data EDI/FHIR standards is preferred
