Senior High-Voltage Electrical Engineer, Data Centers (Remote)

JLL seeks a senior high-voltage electrical engineer to lead power-system design, utility interconnection, and renewable-energy integration for hyperscale data center campuses. This is a remote U.S. role.

Description

  • Lead high-voltage electrical system design and engineering for hyperscale data center campuses
  • Create electrical architectures that improve reliability, redundancy, and scalability
  • Design utility-scale substations, distribution networks, protection and control systems, and grounding systems
  • Complete load-flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, transient-stability, harmonic, and protective-device coordination studies
  • Direct utility interconnection strategy and coordination for projects requiring more than 100 MW of capacity
  • Develop medium-voltage distribution loops, unit substations, diverse utility feeds, and redundant power architectures
  • Create campus electrical master plans and infrastructure roadmaps for phased, multi-building data center developments
  • Integrate solar, battery storage, fuel cells, microgrids, and other sustainable power technologies
  • Design on-site generation, generator paralleling, automatic transfer switch configurations, and grid-scale energy storage systems
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, engineering standards, design guidance, and best practices
  • Advise hyperscale clients on infrastructure strategy, capacity planning, and capital investment
  • Contribute to business development through proposals and technical presentations
  • Lead technical due diligence and long-term electrical infrastructure master planning
  • Review designs for technical accuracy, code compliance, and constructability
  • Support field engineering during high-voltage construction and resolve complex site issues
  • Develop commissioning plans and lead transformer energization, relay testing, generator validation, and integrated system performance testing

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 8–12 years of progressive electrical engineering experience focused substantially on high-voltage power systems, substation design, and mission-critical facilities
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing, or the ability to obtain licensure in multiple states
  • Advanced knowledge of medium-voltage systems from 4.16kV to 35kV and high-voltage systems from 69kV to 230kV, including substation engineering and utility interconnection
  • Comprehensive understanding of data center electrical infrastructure, redundant power architectures, and Uptime Institute Tier Standards
  • Expert proficiency with SKM PowerTools, ETAP, and EasyPower
  • Experience leading utility coordination and interconnection for large power users exceeding 100 MW
  • Strong technical leadership and communication abilities
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering
  • Preferred: Active PE licenses in multiple states
  • Preferred: LEED AP designation or another sustainable-design credential
  • Preferred: IEEE Senior Member status or active involvement in professional societies
  • Preferred: Experience working directly with hyperscale data center operators or major colocation providers
  • Preferred: Expertise in renewable integration, microgrids, distributed energy resources, design-build or EPC delivery, campus master planning, digital substations, and IEC 61850 protocols
  • Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage systems, utility substations, transformers, switchgear, protective relaying, grounding, redundant data center power, UPS integration, generators, battery storage, solar PV, fuel cells, and microgrids
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, arc-flash and grounding analysis software, renewable-energy modeling tools, SCADA platforms, and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, Uptime Institute, ANSI/NETA, utility interconnection, NERC, and OSHA standards
