  • Lead data engineering managers, BI engineering managers and lead engineers across a team of around 40 engineers and analysts.
  • Develop an environment that supports skills growth, career progression and strong delivery.
  • Set direction, clear obstacles and build trust, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit and retain talent while building a diverse, engaged and high-performing organisation.
  • Shape Very’s future data engineering strategy.
  • Set technical direction alongside Architecture, Product and Technology leaders.
  • Advance platform modernisation, cloud adoption, optimisation and technical debt management.
  • Deliver secure, reliable and scalable data products with business domains.
  • Promote engineering practices that improve quality, delivery speed, resilience and operations.
  • Build relationships across technology, product and business teams.
  • Turn business priorities into engineering outcomes and inform senior decisions.
  • Evolve Very’s data ecosystem for reporting, analytics, data science, personalisation and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience leading large-scale data engineering organisations in modern technology environments.
  • Experience with AWS, Teradata, Fivetran and Power BI.
  • A record of building, developing and motivating high-performing engineering teams.
  • Experience delivering data platforms, pipelines and products at scale.
  • Previous hands-on data engineering experience.
  • Strong grasp of modern engineering practices.
  • Experience in Agile, DevSecOps and product-led delivery settings.
  • Ability to combine strategic planning with operational delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder management and confidence influencing senior leaders.
  • Experience managing technical debt, engineering roadmaps and platform modernisation.
  • Experience with AWS and cloud data platforms.
  • Experience with Teradata, Fivetran and modern data integration tools.
  • Business intelligence and analytical engineering capabilities.
  • Experience in multi-cloud or complex enterprise data settings.
  • Experience in retail, eCommerce, financial services or similarly data-rich sectors.
  • Successful applicants must complete credit, CIFAS and Right to Work checks, plus a DBS check where specifically required.
