Remote Contract Specialist

Manage contracts, compliance, and risk for The Nature Conservancy’s Western U.S. and Canada Division. Collaborate with legal, finance, grants, and operations teams across the full contract lifecycle.

Description

  • Act as the primary contracts resource for assigned Pods, Business Units, and Division Priorities
  • Oversee contract intake, consultation, due diligence, agreement drafting, legal coordination, approvals, signatures, amendments, and closeout
  • Track agreement status, deliverables, contractual commitments, and compliance obligations
  • Support contract execution and implementation
  • Verify compliance with organizational policies, procedures, Delegation of Authority requirements, and risk practices
  • Work with Legal, Finance, Grants, and Operations to facilitate effective contract administration
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Program Managers, Award Managers, and other colleagues throughout the contract lifecycle
  • Advise stakeholders on contracting procedures, templates, documentation, approval routes, and organizational requirements
  • Coordinate with the Division’s contracts structure to deliver consistent service
  • Participate in and contribute to the Contracts Community of Practice
  • Advance consistent contracting practices, tools, and procedures across the Division
  • Support process improvements, system enhancements, organizational initiatives, and change management
  • Develop effective working relationships that encourage collaboration, accountability, and responsible stewardship of organizational resources
  • Deliver contract services, compliance support, stakeholder assistance, and operational effectiveness for assigned areas
  • Recognize and escalate compliance concerns, risks, and operational issues
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and relevant contracting training

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations, finance, legal studies, environmental policy, public administration, or a related field, plus three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination
  • Hold TNC Certified Contract Specialist (CCS) certification or obtain it within the established timeframe
  • Experience developing or administering contracts, agreements, amendments, or comparable business documents
  • Nonprofit experience in a similar role is preferred
  • Ability to interpret and apply established policies, procedures, and business requirements
  • Experience building productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including state directors, project managers, legal teams, and HR
  • Experience with contract management, document management, financial, or related technology systems
  • Multilingual ability and/or multicultural experience is appreciated
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization and close attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex, mission-driven environment
  • Experience working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary, or geographically distributed organization
  • Must satisfy The Nature Conservancy’s background screening requirements
