Publications Specialist II, Magazine Editor

Lead quarterly magazine production for an IT and federal management solutions firm. Manage editorial quality, accessibility compliance, approvals, and distribution across each publication cycle.

Description

  • Manage end-to-end magazine production, including schedules and recurring publication cycles.
  • Maintain article versions through the full approval workflow.
  • Provide senior editorial guidance for content and promotional materials.
  • Apply version-control and quality-assurance procedures during editing and document production.
  • Coordinate communication between authors and layout and design teams.
  • Oversee reviews involving authors, technical reviewers, and legal counsel.
  • Ensure articles and complete issues meet GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and Section 508 requirements.
  • Verify all required approvals are secured before public release.
  • Oversee professional distribution and formatting requirements.
  • Report to the Engagement Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, or a closely related field.
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible editorial and publication management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience producing a periodical, preferably a technical or specialty publication.
  • Advanced project-management capability for recurring publication cycles.
  • Advanced skills in substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading.
  • Strong knowledge of Section 508 compliance and federal publishing standards.
  • Ability to manage complex approval workflows and coordinate technical and creative contributors.
  • Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence required.
  • Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Transportation experience, particularly in surface transportation research, preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety and operations, autonomous vehicles, human factors, roadway design, materials, and bridge engineering preferred.
  • Expert command of the GPO Style Manual.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Strong discipline in quality assurance and version control.
