Apex Structural Engineering is a structural engineering consultancy serving architects, contractors, developers, and property owners across commercial, residential, and industrial construction. Project Engineer III – Structural Engineering (Hybrid)

Lead structural analysis, design, documentation, coordination, and mentoring for complex building projects at Apex Structural Engineering.

Description

  • Perform advanced analysis and design for complex structural components and building systems
  • Create, review, and assess three-dimensional gravity and lateral building analysis models
  • Analyze results for unusual behavior, load distribution, forces, reactions, deflections, stability concerns, and modeling conditions
  • Develop structural solutions that balance performance, constructability, efficiency, coordination, and project requirements
  • Apply ASCE 7, IBC, AISC, ACI, TMS, SJI, and other relevant codes and standards
  • Prepare, review, and finalize structural calculations and engineering documentation
  • Use architectural, structural, and other construction documents to produce coordinated structural designs
  • Assess architectural and MEP/FP drawings and models for structural impacts and coordination concerns
  • Coordinate structural requirements with architects, consultants, and other engineering disciplines
  • Provide engineering information for structural drawings and models in coordination with BIM and modeling teams
  • Check structural drawings and models against calculations, design intent, requirements, and Apex standards
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and other construction-phase documentation
  • Attend external project meetings and technical coordination discussions
  • Explain technical concepts, structural requirements, engineering concerns, design decisions, and proposed solutions
  • Identify technical, coordination, constructability, and information issues and recommend actions to Project Managers or Project Executives
  • Support evaluations of design alternatives, constructability, technical risks, and complex engineering issues
  • Guide and mentor Project Engineer I and II team members
  • Review work from less-experienced engineers and provide constructive technical feedback
  • Contribute to technical discussions, knowledge sharing, lessons learned, and improvements to engineering practice
  • Participate in Apex Technical Advisory Groups to improve standards, design tools, calculation procedures, software practices, technical resources, and lessons learned
  • Follow Apex engineering standards, QA/QC procedures, documentation requirements, and project delivery processes
  • Build advanced expertise in structural systems, building codes, analysis methods, constructability, fabrication, erection, and emerging technologies
  • Prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, raise concerns early, and deliver accurate, complete engineering work

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or architectural engineering from an accredited university
  • Master’s degree in structural engineering or a related engineering discipline is preferred
  • Typically four or more years of structural engineering experience with increasing technical responsibility
  • PE and/or SE licensure is required when applicable to the position and jurisdiction
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and design building systems using steel, concrete, masonry, and other applicable materials
  • Strong knowledge of structural loads, load paths, gravity and lateral systems, and component interaction
  • Proficiency with ASCE 7 and applicable building and material design standards
  • Proficiency with Apex’s preferred structural analysis and design software
  • Ability to create, review, and assess three-dimensional structural analysis models
  • Strong understanding of structural behavior and the ability to independently assess analysis results
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting architectural and structural construction documents
  • Working knowledge of MEP/FP and other discipline drawings
  • Ability to prepare clear, organized, comprehensive calculations and engineering documentation
  • Ability to independently assess structural alternatives and identify practical solutions
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate structural requirements with architects, consultants, contractors, and other project participants
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, sound engineering judgment, attention to detail, and persistence with complex technical issues
  • Ability to provide technical guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback to less-experienced engineers
  • Ability to review engineering work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned technical responsibilities
  • Commitment to ongoing technical development and knowledge sharing
  • Diploma or certificate
  • U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States
