Private Funds Counsel – Boston Hybrid

Advise Wellington Management’s private credit, private equity, venture capital, and evergreen funds. Support fund formation, regulatory matters, negotiations, and governance throughout the fund lifecycle.

Description

  • Advise on forming, operating, and governing private credit, private equity, venture capital, and evergreen funds domiciled in the US, Cayman, or Europe
  • Counsel business, operations, and investment teams on platform design, growth initiatives, and related activities
  • Represent the firm in negotiations with fund investors and strategic service providers
  • Oversee collaboration with external counsel and alternative providers
  • Track legal, regulatory, and market developments affecting the funds and business, and provide related advice
  • Lead or support projects that improve the scalability of the fund lifecycle support model
  • Partner with compliance colleagues to develop or update risk-based policies and controls
  • Deliver comprehensive legal support to Wellington Management’s expanding private capital business

Requirements

  • At least eight years of legal practice experience at a national law firm or in-house
  • Experience with private fund formation, investment adviser regulation, and federal securities laws
  • Sound counseling judgment with the ability to balance legal risks and commercial priorities
  • Clear communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills, including the ability to explain complex issues to varied audiences
  • Strong organization and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced setting
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving ability, with initiative to identify risks, improve processes, and develop practical solutions
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a global, team-based, cross-functional environment
  • Intellectual curiosity and a growth-oriented approach to learning new practice skills and building subject-matter expertise
  • Interest in developing the contributions of early-career professionals on the team
