Principal Software Engineer at RTX (Remote, Iowa)

Lead secure ground software development for Collins Aerospace aerospace and defense missions. Mentor engineers while advancing networking, command-and-control, and simulation systems.

Description

  • Lead software design, development, and testing within an agile, collaborative environment
  • Coach junior and mid-level engineers, delegate work, and provide technical guidance
  • Diagnose complex software trouble reports with debugging tools
  • Correct software defects and improve application performance
  • Provide technical leadership and advance continuous improvement efforts
  • Apply relevant industry best practices throughout the work
  • Help define requirements and develop implementations and tests
  • Partner with engineering disciplines to analyze, implement, and test system modification requests
  • Build mission-critical ground software for networking, command-and-control, threat, and weapon simulations
  • Support secure Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation systems from concept through accreditation, production, and installation

Requirements

  • Experience developing, testing, and/or integrating software with Java, C++, or C#
  • Familiarity with agile development frameworks such as Scrum, SAFe, or DevSecOps
  • An active, transferable U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance is required before the start date
  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Typically, a STEM degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced related degree with at least 5 years of experience
  • Python development experience is preferred
  • Experience developing in Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience with multithreaded programming
  • Knowledge of networking and communications protocols
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and infrastructure including Jenkins, Git, and Bitbucket
  • Experience building or deploying containerized applications with Docker
