Principal R&D Engineer and Scientist – Aerospace Materials

Lead aerospace materials research at Honeywell Aerospace Technologies, focusing on high-temperature composites and thermal protection systems. Drive testing, patents, technical leadership, and innovation for aerospace applications.

Description

  • Provide technical leadership for the design, development, and testing of high-temperature composites and thermal protection systems
  • Identify materials and technologies that enhance system performance and durability
  • Direct research programs supporting intellectual property and patent creation
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams to align technical work with business goals and regulatory requirements
  • Coach junior engineers and scientists while promoting high standards of technical excellence
  • Report to the Director of Engineering for Control Systems
  • Act as a subject matter expert developing aerospace materials and systems

Requirements

  • Must qualify as a U.S. Person under export control laws through citizenship, permanent residence, protected U.S. status, or the ability to obtain export authorization
  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering
  • At least 15 years of experience leading research and development programs
  • Expertise in materials science applied to aerospace braking systems
  • Demonstrated success using technology development to drive innovation and business value
  • Experience testing, characterizing, and validating composite materials at high temperatures
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials standards and applicable government regulations
  • An advanced degree in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering is preferred
  • Strong leadership and external-influence skills, including experience engaging government agencies and industry partners through white papers and business proposals
  • Experience developing patents and generating intellectual property
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment
