Principal Linux Driver Engineer — HPE Hybrid

Lead Linux kernel driver and Slingshot networking software development for HPE’s high-performance computing and AI systems. Shape performance, reliability, and hardware-software integration from early architecture through production.

Description

  • Own the architecture, design, and development of Linux kernel drivers and low-level networking software for Slingshot products.
  • Define software interfaces and help shape hardware and firmware architecture for next-generation networking technology.
  • Build and optimize networking software for performance, scalability, reliability, serviceability, and observability.
  • Guide products across architecture, pre-silicon development, bring-up, validation, integration, and production release.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex problems across hardware, firmware, Linux kernel software, and large-scale deployments.
  • Create telemetry, diagnostic, fault-detection, and recovery features.
  • Work closely with ASIC, hardware, firmware, validation, and systems software teams.
  • Provide technical direction through architecture and design reviews, mentoring, and engineering standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 12 years of software engineering experience.
  • Extensive production experience developing Linux kernel drivers.
  • Expert proficiency in C and low-level systems software.
  • Extensive background in high-performance network drivers or Linux kernel networking subsystems.
  • Deep knowledge of Linux kernel internals, including networking, synchronization, scheduling, memory management, interrupts, and performance optimization.
  • Expertise in Ethernet, TCP/IP, RDMA, congestion control, network performance analysis, and packet processing.
  • Strong knowledge of Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking, including PHYs, SerDes, link training, FEC, flow control, and error detection and recovery.
  • Experience debugging complex hardware-software interactions and conducting root-cause analysis.
  • Experience with silicon bring-up, hardware validation, and production delivery of networking products.
  • Proven technical leadership and ownership of large, complex software initiatives.
  • Preferred experience includes HPC interconnects, supercomputing, large-scale AI infrastructure, Slingshot, InfiniBand, RoCE, RDMA, network adapters, SmartNICs, DPUs, switch platforms, Dragonfly, Clos, Fat Tree, congestion management, adaptive routing, fabric telemetry, observability, fleet-scale diagnostics, switch ASIC architecture, and upstream open-source contributions.
