Principal Database as a Service Engineer | Allstate | Bengaluru Hybrid
Lead Allstate’s Database as a Service modernization program for secure, automated, cloud-ready insurance technology platforms. Shape database capabilities across SQL Server, Oracle, and emerging cloud-native technologies.
Description
- Set the vision, technical strategy, and delivery direction for Allstate’s Database as a Service platform
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across database architecture, platform modernization, and engineering execution
- Stabilize, standardize, and upgrade critical SQL Server and Oracle environments
- Expand Infrastructure as Code, APIs, automation, and self-service platform capabilities
- Create next-generation database services that support AI, analytics, and future enterprise technology priorities
- Collaborate with engineering, architecture, infrastructure, security, product, and senior technology teams
- Guide high-impact technology decisions with senior technical leaders and cross-functional stakeholders
- Define KPIs covering reliability, automation adoption, developer experience, performance, resilience, and operational excellence
- Set enterprise standards for database security, observability, resilience, and operational excellence
- Coach engineers, architects, and technical leaders while advancing engineering quality and continuous improvement
- Help shape vendor roadmaps and strategic technology partnerships
Requirements
- At least 12 years of experience in database, platform, cloud, infrastructure engineering, or a related technical field
- At least 5 years leading enterprise-scale database platforms, platform engineering programs, or modernization initiatives
- Background designing and operating highly available, resilient, secure, and scalable platforms for critical business applications in complex enterprises
- Substantial experience with SQL Server and/or Oracle environments supporting business-critical systems
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, or managed cloud database services
- Strong command of automation, Infrastructure as Code, APIs, DevOps, and platform engineering practices
- Experience creating, transforming, or modernizing self-service platforms and operational automation
- Ability to shape enterprise technology strategy, architecture, engineering roadmaps, and decisions with senior stakeholders
- Experience delivering large-scale technical solutions with engineering, architecture, security, infrastructure, and product leaders
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and drive organizational change through influence and practical technical leadership
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Supervisory experience or management responsibilities
- Preferred experience includes DBaaS leadership; AWS, Azure, GCP, and cloud-native databases; AI, machine learning, analytics, vector databases, or LLM infrastructure; Kubernetes and containers; large-scale cloud migration or database transformation; FinOps; vendor roadmap strategy; and relevant industry certifications
