Manufacturing Engineer II – Aerospace, Onsite Ohio

Manufacturing Engineer II role focused on aerospace production processes, tooling, product manufacturability, and continuous improvement at Sierra Nevada Corporation. Support design-for-manufacturing, process engineering, and production activities for national-security technologies.

Description

  • Create and maintain work instructions and process documentation
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes for new and existing products
  • Partner with design and quality teams to verify manufacturability and quality compliance
  • Design and implement production tooling and fixtures
  • Investigate manufacturing issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
  • Use Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methods to lead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Improve production flow, workstation layouts, and material-handling processes
  • Advance product manufacturability through DFM and DFA, tooling design, and process engineering

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • At least four years of manufacturing or process engineering experience
  • A relevant advanced degree may replace some experience requirements
  • Proficiency with CAD software and process documentation
  • Understanding of engineering principles and practices
  • Experience collaborating on multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience with computer-based design and harness or wire-routing tools such as Capital or Zuken E3
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of aerospace industry practices and standards
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Secret U.S. security clearance
  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies, such as 3D printing or CNC machining, preferred
  • Aerospace and defense industry experience preferred
  • Familiarity with GD&T under ASME Y14.5 preferred
  • Knowledge of parametric design, model-based definition, material and hardware selection, and manufacturing and production processes preferred
  • Experience participating in Material Review Board nonconformance dispositions preferred
  • Experience supporting new product introduction and production transition preferred
  • Exposure to PLM, MES, and MRP systems preferred
  • Familiarity with EWIS standards and certifications for aircraft manufacturing preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field, with typically six or more years of relevant experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, EBOM and MBOM, build and routing sequences, process flow, and producibility checks preferred
  • Experience performing engineering activities in the defense industry preferred
