Lead Python Engineer (Remote, Virginia)

Lead Python Engineer delivering Python-based software for Excella’s commercial and government clients. Guide technical direction, mentor developers, and support Agile project delivery.

Description

  • Design and build Python software solutions for commercial and government clients using Django, Flask, or FastAPI
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance that supports team development
  • Partner with clients and stakeholders to connect technical solutions with business goals
  • Promote strong practices in coding, architecture, and Agile delivery
  • Review code and offer actionable feedback to uphold quality standards
  • Encourage practical adoption of emerging technologies to improve project results
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts across teams and engagements

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of software development experience supported by a strong technical foundation
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and frameworks including Django, Flask, or FastAPI
  • Hands-on experience with microservices, Docker and Kubernetes containerization, and cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS
  • Strong command of RESTful API design and implementation
  • Thorough understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and testing approaches
  • Strong database design knowledge, including SQLAlchemy or Django ORM and SQL/NoSQL databases
  • Experience applying secure software development practices
  • Proficiency with Git-based development workflows and software development lifecycle management
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring developers in consulting or technical settings
  • Preferred: familiarity with trunk-based development techniques, including feature flags
  • Preferred: knowledge of application observability instrumentation
  • Preferred: experience with DevOps and continuous delivery tools such as Jenkins, Harness, GitLab CI/CD, AWS Lambda, or Terraform
  • Preferred: familiarity with GenAI productivity tools including ChatGPT, Claude, and GitHub Copilot
  • Preferred: familiarity with data engineering technologies such as Pandas, NumPy, Spark, and Airflow
