Java Software Development Engineer Intern – Massy, France

Join Thales as a Java software engineering intern developing and optimizing military air traffic control interfaces. Work with Java Swing, UX/UI, and the Quantum design system.

Description

  • Join the air defense team and develop insight into the sector
  • Learn the technical development environment used by the team
  • Build and optimize software features while improving the graphical user interface
  • Improve the user experience and design of an operational interface in line with Thales’ Quantum design system
  • Develop and optimize the UI/UX of an air traffic control interface using Java Swing
  • Present deliverables and help validate operational concepts
  • Work with engineers, developers, domain experts, GUI specialists, UX designers, and project teams in an agile environment
  • Present progress regularly and share work with stakeholders
  • Prepare the internship report

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a master’s degree in computer science through a five-year engineering or university program
  • Available for a six-month internship
  • Experience developing applications or interfaces with Java Swing
  • Proficient in designing and managing graphical user interfaces with Java Swing
  • Knowledge of C++ or initial experience using it
  • Experience with tools such as Maven, CMake, IntelliJ, Visual Studio, Git, or Bitbucket
  • Experience with a GUI testing tool such as QFTest
  • Initial knowledge of or experience with GUI development and UX
  • Able to work independently with a high level of rigor
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with diverse stakeholders
  • Able to analyze problems, suggest solutions, and take initiative
  • Clear communication skills and effective work organization
  • The role may require security clearance for access to information classified as a national defense secret
