Description

  • Lead a portfolio of technology initiatives and developers building distributed microservices and full-stack systems
  • Develop technology solutions that address Capital One’s regulatory requirements
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, build new technical expertise, and engage with technology communities
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to the broader engineering community
  • Partner with digital product managers to deliver reliable cloud solutions serving millions of Americans
  • Work with Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, open-source relational and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS services
  • Set technical direction across Agile teams and establish standards for design, development, and operational excellence
  • Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration approaches, and reusable frameworks
  • Drive targeted refactoring, reduce technical debt, improve systems, and address performance opportunities
  • Shape long-term technology strategy by assessing emerging tools and practices in a build-and-own engineering environment

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative field, such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics, or engineering
  • At least four years of software engineering experience, excluding internships
  • At least two years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
  • Must be authorized to work without employer-sponsored immigration support
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in computer science or a related field
  • Preferred: Seven or more years of coding experience across at least two of Go, Java, JavaScript or TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, and Scala
  • Preferred: Three or more years of experience with databases and database management systems
  • Preferred: Three or more years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
  • Preferred: Four or more years contributing to open-source frameworks
  • Preferred: Three or more years using front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks
  • Preferred: Four or more years creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs
  • Preferred: Three or more years working with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks
  • Preferred: Three or more years using Git-based version control
  • Preferred: Three or more years troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments
  • Experience with modern AI coding tools and IDE copilots
  • Preferred: At least one year mentoring engineers and supporting professional development within technical teams
  • Preferred: At least one year using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems
  • Experience with interactive AI tools beyond basic code completion
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering work or large-scale technical initiatives
  • Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams
