Front-End Software Engineer (Hybrid, Bristol)

Description

  • Help design and develop flight-control and ground-station software with modern web technologies.
  • Contribute to software engineering activities spanning design, implementation, and testing.
  • Work with the team to design and develop user interfaces.
  • Partner with UX researchers and designers, developers, and project managers.
  • Take part in sprint planning and estimation within a cross-functional team.

Requirements

  • Confidence contributing within a cross-functional agile team.
  • Strong practical knowledge of React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, Git, and Jira or comparable tools.
  • Familiarity with Figma or an equivalent interface-design platform.
  • Working knowledge of Jest, Cypress, React Testing Library, or similar testing tools.
  • Ability to integrate and work with APIs.
  • Understanding of WebSocket or comparable streaming technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • An interest in drones, aviation, data-intensive applications, or geospatial systems.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards.
  • Previous experience in the defence sector.
  • Commitment to maintaining strong coding standards.
  • A clear focus on accessibility and UI/UX principles.
  • Current knowledge of design practices covering responsive layouts, accessibility, and maintainable interface patterns.
  • British citizenship or an existing right to work in the UK.
  • Willingness to undertake occasional national and international travel.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance, including five years of UK residency.
  • Permission to work in the UK by the employment start date.
  • Ability to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard clearance.
