Front-End Developer at Varsity Brands (Remote)

Entry-level software engineer contributing to Varsity Brands’ unified sports and spirit platform. Develops APIs, backend services, and scalable cloud-based software.

Description

  • Develop and debug code for applications, backend services, and APIs
  • Help deliver features and services within established architecture and engineering standards
  • Take part in code reviews and use feedback to strengthen code quality
  • Investigate and resolve issues in development and lower environments
  • Work with engineering, product, and QA teams to deliver reliable, functional software
  • Apply established workflows, security practices, and engineering standards
  • Add to technical documentation and share knowledge with the team
  • Build familiarity with platform architecture, service interactions, and system design principles
  • Develop practical knowledge of platform services, system interactions, and engineering patterns
  • Help create platform features and backend services that support business and customer experiences
  • Support scalable cloud engineering environments and the move toward a unified platform architecture

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience, including internships, academic projects, or early-career roles
  • Basic knowledge of software engineering principles, including object-oriented programming and data structures
  • Basic understanding of APIs, application architecture, and databases
  • Familiarity with modern development environments and tools
  • Ability to write, test, and debug code in at least one programming language, preferably Java
  • Basic knowledge of RESTful APIs
  • Basic knowledge of SQL and data handling
  • Basic knowledge of version control systems and Git-based tools
  • Ability to use logical reasoning to solve defined technical problems
  • Ability to make independent decisions within established guidelines
  • Ability to recognize issues and escalate them appropriately when needed
  • Effective communication in team settings
  • Ability to learn new technologies and tools quickly
  • Ability to adapt to changing engineering practices and environments
