  • Develop a deep understanding of the production platform during the first 90 days alongside its founding teams.
  • Take progressive ownership of the data and transaction layer, service architecture, and cloud platform.
  • Direct the platform’s end-to-end architecture and establish its long-term technical direction.

  • Present technology strategies and trade-offs to executives, business stakeholders, and regulators.
  • Define service boundaries, APIs, data ownership, and communication between services.
  • Design high-volume, low-latency transaction systems with strong consistency and idempotency.
  • Establish approaches for distributed transactions, retries, and failure recovery.
  • Lead architecture reviews and maintain decision records across hundreds of services.
  • Reduce architectural debt and plan legacy-service evolution without interrupting live traffic.

  • Find and resolve performance constraints across the JVM, network, and data layers.
  • Guide cloud architecture spanning containers, Kubernetes, managed data services, networking, and infrastructure as code.
  • Establish SLOs, observability standards, and incident-response practices.
  • Advance scalability, resilience, disaster recovery, and efficient cloud spending.

  • Expertise in Java 17 or later, Spring Boot and Spring Cloud, concurrency, JVM performance tuning, and garbage collection.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and running more than 100 production microservices.
  • Hands-on experience operating systems that process millions of real-time transactions daily against defined latency and uptime targets.
  • Advanced database knowledge spanning PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle—including query tuning, indexing, sharding, and replication—as well as Cassandra, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, or comparable NoSQL and caching systems.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture using Kafka or a similar streaming platform.
  • Production experience with AWS or GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code tooling.

  • Experience designing REST or gRPC APIs, and working with API gateways and service-mesh concepts.
  • Practical observability and reliability experience with Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, or comparable tools, plus SLOs and incident management.
  • Experience building engineering teams and assessing and interviewing technical candidates.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with executives, peers, and individual contributors.
