Director, Assistant General Counsel - Commercial

Pinterest is seeking a commercial legal director to lead counsel and negotiations for SaaS, AI, cloud infrastructure, and technology agreements. The role supports technology partnerships and strategic business initiatives.

Description

  • Lead and develop legal professionals handling complex commercial and technology transactions
  • Oversee team hiring, onboarding, performance, development, and resource planning
  • Establish priorities and operating practices that improve productivity, quality, stakeholder support, and career growth
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex, contentious, and unexpected matters
  • Shape negotiation strategy and assess legal risk across SaaS, AI, cloud, infrastructure, data processing, professional services, and other supplier agreements
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, Privacy, Finance, Procurement, and IT on strategic initiatives and critical transactions
  • Create scalable playbooks, templates, workflows, guidance, and decision frameworks
  • Apply metrics, milestones, and feedback loops to strengthen execution and stakeholder experience
  • Develop team and organizational capability through coaching, succession planning, broader exposure, and stretch assignments
  • Monitor cloud contracting developments, emerging licensing and consumption models, and industry best practices

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree and at least 10 years of legal experience
  • Substantial experience negotiating complex SaaS, cloud services, technology infrastructure, and commercial transactions
  • At least two years of in-house legal experience at a technology company preferred
  • Strong people leadership experience spanning coaching, performance management, professional development, and workforce planning
  • Extensive experience negotiating cloud compute, SaaS, hosting, data processing, professional services, and other technology supplier agreements
  • Ability to advise on data privacy, data security, artificial intelligence, and broader commercial risk
  • Sound judgment and confidence making risk-based decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities
  • Ability to deliver clear, business-focused solutions
  • Proven ability to drive results through others, manage escalations, and improve team operations
  • Demonstrated success building team capability, maintaining high standards, and fostering an inclusive, accountable environment
