Database Engineer (Hybrid, Lincoln)

Design and optimize Oracle- and PostgreSQL-backed databases for PenLink’s law-enforcement software platform. Improve schemas, queries, data quality, reliability, and performance for investigative applications.

Description

  • Develop moderately complex SQL queries, views, and stored procedures for product functionality and reporting.
  • Tune database structures, queries, and indexes to strengthen performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Conduct routine data-quality checks and correct integrity issues across systems.
  • Advise application developers on data access patterns, query design, and schema usage.
  • Help shape relational data models, including tables, relationships, and constraints.
  • Review database changes while following coding, documentation, and team standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve database defects, escalating complex issues with clear analysis when necessary.
  • Keep accurate documentation for schemas, procedures, and database changes.
  • Mentor Database Engineer I colleagues on daily tasks and tools.
  • Handle additional duties as required by the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline.
  • Oracle or PostgreSQL certification is recommended.
  • Two to five years of relevant database engineering experience.
  • Advanced SQL capability, including query optimization and stored procedure development.
  • Strong knowledge of relational modeling, normalization, and schema design.
  • Experience applying indexing strategies and identifying performance bottlenecks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot proactively and work independently on assigned responsibilities.
  • Effective collaborator who can support developers across teams.
  • Consistent approach to documentation and change management.
  • Production experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with partitioning, query execution plans, and database monitoring tools.
  • Experience supporting data-intensive or analytics-focused applications.
