Spacecraft Operations Controller, LCRD

Description

  • Issue real-time commands to spacecraft payloads.
  • Monitor telemetry and operate ground control systems.
  • Safeguard the orbital asset throughout its operational life.
  • Configure, test, and control ground equipment as a console operator during every phase of real-time satellite payload operations.
  • Support readiness, planning, preparation, execution, and evaluation for on-orbit payload missions, including retirement and disposal at end of life.
  • Schedule tasks, trend data, analyze performance, track live operations, and troubleshoot LCRD payload anomalies.
  • Create, review, and maintain mission documentation, including procedures, handbooks, support plans, Operations Directives, and test plans.
  • Improve acquisition, tracking, command, and telemetry services for multiple customers, resolving conflicts as they arise.
  • Carry out anomaly response plans during critical events, join tiger-team reviews, assess recovery options, and prepare anomaly reports.
  • Check spacecraft, payload, and ground system status on an ongoing basis to ensure mission and safety compliance.
  • Provide occasional round-the-clock mission coverage on rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering or a related field, plus two years of direct satellite operations experience; equivalent military experience in command and control, intelligence, or operations management is accepted.
  • Four additional years of related experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Active Top Secret clearance required, with the ability to obtain Sensitive Compartmented Information eligibility.
  • U.S. citizenship and proof of citizenship required.
  • Must be able to maintain access to the government worksite.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and strict compliance with technical procedures, operational checklists, and emergency plans.
  • Able to work reliably and collaboratively as part of a team in high-stakes settings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, including clearly conveying technical information and status updates under time pressure.
  • Must work on site at the White Sands Complex in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance preferred.
  • Five or more years of dedicated space or satellite operations experience, or complex military operations experience, preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Experience with satellite ground systems, telemetry architectures, or satellite tracking networks preferred.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
