Conflicts Attorney - Dallas, Onsite

Analyze conflicts of interest, research prospective clients, draft waivers, and advise attorneys on professional responsibility and risk management for Haynes Boone.

Description

  • Independently assess conflicts of interest involving new business, lateral attorneys, new staff, and prospective merger candidates
  • Prepare conflict waivers and ethical screens to address potential conflicts of interest
  • Counsel attorneys on conflicts-related ethical duties and other matters governed by the Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Research the backgrounds of prospective clients
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on professional responsibility and risk management
  • Complete assigned conflicts checks outside regular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Handle other related responsibilities as assigned
  • Report to the Director of Conflicts and Records
  • Work in a standard office setting with standard office equipment

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of processes and procedures in a large law firm
  • General familiarity with the firm’s practice areas
  • Working knowledge of the Rules of Professional Conduct, ethics law, and related opinions concerning conflicts of interest
  • Experience conducting legal research and drafting written work
  • Strong attention to detail, independent judgment, and decision-making ability
  • Effective time management with the ability to manage multiple projects independently
  • Strong legal research and communication skills
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction
  • Ability to move around the office for up to 15% of the workday
  • Ability to remain stationary for at least 75% of the workday
  • Ability to operate computers and office productivity equipment continuously
  • Ability to occasionally move documents or files weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to continuously communicate and exchange information with firm attorneys, clients, and staff
  • Ability to inspect and observe information on a computer screen for at least 80% of the workday
