Computational Imaging Engineer, Los Angeles Hybrid

Build camera ISP pipelines and sensor solutions for Snap’s Specs AR eyewear. Partner with optics, computer vision, and compute teams to advance computational imaging systems.

Description

  • Build image signal processing pipelines for emerging computational imaging platforms
  • Coordinate engineering work across optics, sensor, computer vision, and compute disciplines
  • Shape system architecture decisions and align stakeholders on important technical trade-offs
  • Create camera ISP performance test methods and characterization strategies
  • Investigate sensor performance problems, identify root causes, and deliver corrective measures
  • Travel occasionally, up to 15%

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in optics, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline
  • At least two years of computational imaging experience supporting computer vision applications
  • Background in computational imaging, computer vision, and machine learning for image processing
  • Experience creating and optimizing ISP and machine learning algorithms for camera products
  • Experience with unconventional image sensors such as SPADs, jots, SiPMs, event sensors, or neuromorphic sensors
  • Understanding of optics and camera systems used for imaging, depth mapping, and biometric sensing
  • Knowledge of image quality principles and ISP pipeline design
  • Software engineering and data analysis experience with tools such as C++, MATLAB, or Python
  • Ability to use AI models to speed up engineering workflows and software development
  • Capacity to work independently while coordinating internal and external resources
  • Ability to assess system-level effects and trade-offs on highly constrained platforms
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills when managing multiple deadlines
  • Ability to contribute effectively in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment
  • Preferred: master’s or PhD in optics, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline
  • Preferred: four or more years designing reliable computer vision algorithms for consumer electronics
  • Experience developing camera systems for AR/VR, wearable, or mobile products
  • Experience delivering complete camera ISP pipelines for edge or distributed computing platforms
  • Experience developing event-based processing systems
  • Experience with depth mapping and direct time-of-flight depth measurement systems
  • Experience designing pixel-level and sensor-level algorithms
