Communications Assistant, Cooley LLP

Support Cooley’s media relations and external communications work by tracking coverage, coordinating outreach, and maintaining team resources. Help build the firm’s reputation through research, content, and campaign support.

Description

  • Help the external communications team run proactive media relations and reputation-building efforts.
  • Track news coverage of Cooley, its lawyers and clients, competitors, and priority industries and issues.
  • Prepare and share media coverage reports and communications updates.
  • Keep media lists, journalist details, and media relations resources current.
  • Research reporters, publications, industry trends, news, and potential communications opportunities.
  • Assist with press releases, deal announcements, media pitches, and other outreach materials.
  • Arrange media interviews and reporter interactions, including scheduling and preparing background materials.
  • Spot opportunities to showcase Cooley’s client work, lawyers, practices, and perspectives.
  • Help draft, edit, proofread, and publish external communications content.
  • Maintain communications calendars, trackers, and reporting tools.
  • Contribute to external communications campaigns and special projects across earned media, social media, thought leadership, and other content.
  • Provide administrative and organizational support, including meeting scheduling and upkeep of team materials.
  • Work with Communications, Marketing & Business Development, and other firm teams.
  • Handle multiple assignments and deadlines with accuracy and close attention to detail.
  • Help improve team organization, processes, and information sharing.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, use Microsoft Office, iManage, and other firm applications proficiently.
  • Be available to work overtime when required.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous internship or professional experience in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, professional services, or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with media monitoring, media databases, or other public relations tools is preferred.
