AI Research Intern at OnePay — New York City Hybrid

Description

  • Develop, design, and train foundation models with OnePay customer, transaction, and merchant data using transformer or graph-based architectures
  • Conduct experiments and assess model performance with rigorous evaluation
  • Translate promising research results into functional prototypes
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Applied Science teams across business units
  • Contribute to stronger customer experiences, improved business results, and more efficient operations
  • Deliver measurable impact on OnePay’s financial performance
  • Work under the direction of the Head of AI/ML
  • Complete a full-time, eight-week internship based in the New York City office

Requirements

  • Be a final-year master’s or PhD student in Engineering or a related discipline, graduating in Fall 2027 or Spring 2028
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of neural networks, including backpropagation, attention, embeddings, optimization, and training dynamics
  • Have implemented, trained, or fine-tuned models through research, coursework, or independent projects
  • Be proficient with PyTorch or a comparable machine learning framework
  • Have completed at least one research, machine learning, or software engineering internship, or have substantial academic or personal project experience
  • Be available for the full-time, eight-week program from June 21 through August 13, 2027
  • Be able to work from the New York City office at least three to four days per week for the duration of the internship
  • Take ownership of work and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Bring strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, and communication abilities
  • Be highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities efficiently
  • Show enthusiasm for learning and professional growth in a rapidly expanding startup
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States; OnePay does not sponsor employment visas or consider future sponsorship
  • Knowledge of transformer-based foundation models, including pre-training, fine-tuning, inference, and related tradeoffs is a plus
  • Experience with graph learning or graph foundation models, including GNNs, message passing, or graph-based representation learning, is a plus
  • Coursework or project experience with large language models or generative AI is a plus
  • Research contributions such as publications, workshop papers, or open-source projects are a plus
