Principal Backend Engineer (Hybrid, Palo Alto)

- Own the architecture and long-term technical direction of core platform services
- Guide complex, cross-functional initiatives from initial concept through production while documenting key trade-offs
- Develop and review critical code while setting expectations for quality, maintainability, security, and performance
- Advance infrastructure automation, observability, monitoring, alerting, reliability goals, and incident response practices
- Work with product, security, compliance, and customer-facing teams to turn requirements into platform capabilities
- Mentor and develop Senior and Staff engineers
- Lead technical reviews, architecture decision-making, and lasting technical documentation
- Act as a senior escalation resource for complex production incidents, directing root cause analysis and systemic remediation
- Assess emerging generative AI technologies and advise on build-versus-buy decisions
- Support engineering planning, scope definition, sequencing, and risk reduction for major milestones and deliverables
आवश्यकताएँ
- Proven experience designing, launching, and operating a production generative AI application or platform at scale
- Expert-level Python experience
- Working knowledge of TypeScript or Java
- Practical experience with a modern compiled language such as Go or Rust
- Experience designing distributed systems, microservices, and RESTful APIs
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Experience managing infrastructure as code with Terraform
- Strong command of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability tools
- Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Technical leadership across architecture decisions, cross-team initiatives, and engineer mentoring
- Ability to explain complex technical subjects clearly to engineers, executives, and customers
- Strong problem-solving ability and sound judgment in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments
- Availability to work on-site in the Palo Alto offices three days per week
- Significant GCP experience and familiarity with AWS, GCP, and Azure
- Experience with AI/ML platforms and frameworks including TensorFlow and PyTorch, as well as LLM serving, evaluation, and monitoring
- Experience developing platforms in regulated environments such as HIPAA or SOC 2
- Familiarity with front-end technologies including React, Angular, and Vue.js
- Previous experience in healthcare
- Experience as an early engineering team member at a high-growth company
