Rail and Transit Project Engineering Director

Lead multidisciplinary engineering delivery for complex rail and transit infrastructure projects at AtkinsRéalis. Oversee design, quality, safety, stakeholder coordination, and project execution across Canada.

Tavsif

  • Lead engineering services for complex Class 3, 4, and 5 projects, typically valued from $1 million to over $20 million.
  • Help grow the Engineering Management practice.
  • Set the project engineering team’s strategy.
  • Guide engineering design from project inception through completion.
  • Coordinate with Project Delivery, Technical TPO, and external stakeholders.
  • Work with Win Work and Market Leads to set proposal schedules, deliverables, and effort.
  • Set project goals, schedules, and deliverables with Project Delivery teams.
  • Oversee engineering across design, development, testing, and implementation.
  • Manage technical risks and resources.
  • Lead the Project Design Execution Plan and coordination across disciplines.
  • Make safety a priority throughout technical delivery.
  • Track estimates, schedules, deliverables, and scope commitments.
  • Prepare and submit monthly project reports.
  • Provide technical direction and advance engineering processes, methods, and tools.
  • Review engineering deliverables and assess their quality.
  • Encourage value engineering and manage changes.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, vendors, contractors, and regulators.
  • Share engineering updates, respond to concerns, and manage expectations.
  • Represent the engineering team in meetings, presentations, and technical discussions.

Talablar

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • At least 15 years of experience on transportation projects involving rail, transit, or light rail infrastructure design.
  • At least five years in engineering management, leading complex multidisciplinary teams through planning, design, and delivery.
  • Experience overseeing design development for LRT, BRT, or other rail and bus transit systems.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with transit standards.
  • Experience managing consultant teams.
  • Experience integrating projects with urban settings and existing infrastructure.
  • Experience in highly regulated settings involving municipal, provincial, and federal authorities.
  • Experience with different contract models; Alliance contract experience is an asset.
  • Familiarity with civil and utilities engineering and systems engineering.
  • Ability to coordinate across disciplines and with stakeholders.
  • Registered professional engineer in Canada.
  • Eligible to obtain relevant professional designations in multiple Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Strong technical expertise, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Deep understanding of engineering principles, methods, and best practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and French.
  • English proficiency is required because project deliverables serve audiences elsewhere in Canada or internationally.
