Accounting Manager - Worcester, MA (Hybrid)

Lead insurance accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and staff development for a Worcester-based team. Oversee GAAP, statutory, NAIC, SEC, and SOX compliance while driving reporting accuracy and process improvement.

Tavsif

  • Direct daily accounting team operations, internal controls, and quality assurance activities
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP and statutory reporting for internal and external audiences
  • Ensure financial information, regulatory filings, control documentation, and disclosures are prepared, reviewed, and analyzed accurately and on schedule
  • Maintain compliance with NAIC, SEC, SOX, SAP, GAAP, and company accounting policies
  • Act as the primary subject matter expert for accounting, systems, and reporting questions
  • Assess financial statement data flows and evaluate key controls
  • Investigate and resolve reporting issues and material variances
  • Oversee accounting operations, control activities, quality assurance, recurring and special reporting deliverables, and ad hoc projects
  • Manage close activities and keep reporting deliverables on schedule
  • Review and approve complex journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting workpapers
  • Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and resolve reporting discrepancies
  • Oversee accounting and reporting processes that support SAP, GAAP, and SEC requirements
  • Support NAIC reporting, regulatory filings, and insurance financial reporting obligations
  • Work with internal and external auditors during audits and regulatory examinations
  • Research, document, and implement changes to accounting guidance and reporting requirements
  • Maintain and improve internal control documentation and testing programs
  • Lead process improvement and automation efforts across financial statement data flows and reporting outputs
  • Identify technology opportunities and create accounting and reporting solutions
  • Lead, coach, develop, and assess accounting team members
  • Set team priorities, assign resources, and track performance
  • Partner with operations, IT, actuarial, finance, HR, management, and audit stakeholders
  • Present complex accounting issues and recommendations to senior leadership

Talablar

  • At least 5–8 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting
  • Insurance accounting or public accounting experience preferred, or a combination of both
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA, MBA, or master’s degree in Accounting strongly preferred
  • Strongly preferred experience with SAP, NAIC, GAAP, SEC, and statutory accounting principles
  • Experience with financial reporting and ERP tools such as PeopleSoft, Oracle, SAP, Essbase, Hyperion, Power BI, or comparable systems
  • Ability to work independently, balance competing priorities, and deliver against deadlines
  • Ability to build effective teams through coaching, mentoring, and professional development
