Director of Onsite Power Generation

Lead Equinix’s strategy for onsite power generation across its global data centers. Build operating models, partnerships, and scalable energy projects to expand capacity, improve resilience, and support sustainability.

Opis

  • Set Equinix’s enterprise strategy for onsite, behind-the-meter, and co-sited generation across its global data center portfolio.
  • Identify where onsite power can speed capacity deployment, strengthen resilience, address grid constraints, improve economics, and advance sustainability objectives.
  • Create a consistent global operating model for technology screening, stage gates, commercial frameworks, design principles, governance, and execution handoffs.
  • Work with Energy, Design & Construction, Operations, Capacity, Sustainability, Finance, Procurement, and Legal teams.
  • Maintain global playbooks for site screening, reference architectures, technology qualification, commercial models, risk thresholds, approvals, contracting, commissioning, and asset-management handoffs.
  • Tailor the enterprise strategy to regional market, regulatory, permitting, fuel, interconnection, and operating conditions.
  • Build a global pipeline and governance cadence for onsite, co-sited, and distributed generation opportunities.
  • Coordinate power solutions with campus planning, utility capacity, electrical topology, redundancy, controls, commissioning, load ramps, customer commitments, and critical-facility needs.
  • Standardize evaluation and contracting for fuel cells, gas turbines, reciprocating engines, linear generators, and battery technologies.
  • Manage strategic relationships and complex negotiations with developers, IPPs, OEMs, EPCs, fuel suppliers, utilities, investors, and other counterparties.
  • Set standards for total cost of ownership analysis and risk allocation.
  • Clarify decision rights, roles, interfaces, and escalation paths across global and regional teams.
  • Advise senior leaders on portfolio decisions, capital allocation, strategic risks, market shifts, and emerging technologies.
  • Present the roadmap, performance dashboard, and recommended actions.

  • Experience leading complex cross-functional programs.
  • Experience creating an enterprise strategy, operating model, playbook, or center-of-excellence capability and gaining adoption across multiple regions or business units.
  • Strong understanding of hyperscale, colocation, or large-scale data center development and operations.
  • Knowledge of speed-to-power, campus planning, critical-load growth, uptime, redundancy, commissioning, electrical infrastructure, and utility capacity constraints.
  • Technical and commercial fluency in onsite and behind-the-meter power, including fuel cells, gas turbines, reciprocating engines, battery storage, controls, fuel supply, and grid interconnection.
  • Experience originating, assessing, structuring, and negotiating complex energy or infrastructure transactions.
  • Ability to influence regional and functional leaders without relying solely on direct authority.
  • Strong commercial judgment, including total-cost-of-ownership analysis, risk allocation, contract protections, and investment recommendations.
  • Executive-level communication skills.
  • Preferred: Direct experience with a hyperscaler, cloud service provider, colocation platform, data center developer or operator, or another owner or operator of mission-critical digital infrastructure.
  • Preferred: A record of deploying onsite or bridge-power solutions for large, rapidly growing critical loads.
  • Preferred: Experience with reference designs, basis-of-design standards, design for reliability, modular deployment, N+1 or 2N architectures, islanding, black start, supervisory controls, and integration with critical-facility electrical systems.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with utility interconnection, standby service, wholesale capacity markets, environmental permitting, air emissions, fuel procurement, commissioning, operational readiness, and commercial-operation requirements.
