Engineer I, Substation Design (Onsite)

Design substation layouts, electrical systems, grounding plans, and protection infrastructure for Qualus. Participate in the 2027 Engineering Boot Camp, including site visits, safety training, equipment instruction, and FE exam preparation.

Descriere

  • Collaborate with Protection & Control Engineers to develop physical substation layouts that meet applicable codes and client standards
  • Prepare general arrangements, equipment and electrical layouts, elevation views, cable trenches, grounding studies and grids, conduit drawings, lightning protection and grounding plans, AC/DC power systems, and bills of materials
  • Coordinate with Substation Design Engineers, Relay Settings Engineers, and other teams to confirm design alignment
  • Perform AC/DC load, bus span, and ampacity calculations
  • Prepare equipment and material specifications for engineered equipment procurement
  • Develop design scopes and project cost estimates
  • Contribute to project teams while supporting quality and project management objectives
  • Meet project deadlines and follow established processes and procedures
  • Build technical expertise in electrical substation design and protection and control schematics through formal training and hands-on work
  • Provide testing support when requested by the project lead
  • Produce drawings and help assemble design packages using CAD and drafting skills
  • Prepare documentation supporting procurement, construction, and system operation and maintenance
  • Apply established design and CAD drafting standards to maintain quality, accuracy, and completeness
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and communicate recommendations through appropriate management channels
  • Attend classroom training, site visits, substation safety and equipment instruction, and FE exam preparation through the 2027 Engineering Boot Camp

Cerințe

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, with a focus on power systems
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is advantageous
  • Coursework or educational experience involving medium- to high-voltage electricity is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and accurately with close attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to discuss technical recommendations effectively with customers
  • Strong general computer skills
  • Awareness of substation environments and a safety-conscious approach
  • Ability to learn and apply testing procedures for different types of substation equipment quickly
