  • Lead a multidisciplinary team across engineering, QA, UX, product, agile delivery, and application support.
  • Set technical direction and lead people.
  • Coach engineers to build their skills and careers, including emerging AI-native capabilities.
  • Build an inclusive, open team culture that encourages contribution, feedback, and constructive challenge.
  • Give the team autonomy and provide clear direction when needed.
  • Oversee hiring, technical interviews, and onboarding.
  • Guide engineering across frontend, backend, mobile, and data.
  • Define expectations for architecture, code quality, and performance.
  • Help engineers resolve complex technical and business challenges.
  • Shape solutions with architects, engineering leaders, and the broader team.
  • Partner with Security to build resilient, defence-in-depth protections for systems and customer data.
  • Lead adoption of Aflac’s AI-native software development lifecycle.
  • Integrate AI into planning, design, development, testing, and code reviews.
  • Develop engineers’ skills in prompt and context design, AI-assisted testing, and specification-driven development.
  • Set standards for reviewing, testing, and taking ownership of AI-generated code.
  • Assess AI engineering effectiveness and share lessons across the organisation.
  • Collaborate with Product, UX, and business teams on secure, user-centred products for sales agents.
  • Use agent feedback and product insights to prioritise high-impact improvements.
  • Advance automation, CI/CD, embedded testing, monitoring, and observability.
  • Contribute directly to code, pipelines, and technical solutions when needed.
  • Report progress, value, and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Prasības

  • Degree at bachelor’s or master’s level, or equivalent, preferably in computer science, software engineering, or a STEM field; comparable commercial experience is also considered.
  • Substantial industry experience in software engineering or application development.
  • Demonstrated experience working at Engineering Manager level.
  • Experience building and managing a team, including developing people through coaching, teaching, or mentoring.
  • Full-stack development experience, including Java and Spring Boot REST services and Angular or TypeScript frontends.
  • Experience building and operating high-traffic applications on AWS.
  • Experience delivering responsive experiences across web and mobile platforms.
  • Hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Kiro, Claude Code, or Cursor.
  • A clear perspective on how AI-assisted development tools affect team workflows.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps in Agile software development and continuous delivery.
  • Ability to work effectively with QA, Product, UX, Architecture, and Production Support.
  • Experience working with key business stakeholders and conducting in-depth technical design reviews.
  • Self-directed learner who proactively develops new skills, approaches, and techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be based in Northern Ireland and have the relevant right-to-work visa.
