Managing Engineer, Data Engineering at Allstate (Remote)
Lead Allstate’s data engineering team in building secure, scalable batch and streaming data platforms. Guide technical strategy, people development, production reliability, and cloud modernization for remote data engineering operations.

- Lead and develop Data Engineers through technical mentorship, coaching, and career support
- Set engineering standards that strengthen collaboration, accountability, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement
- Direct the design, delivery, implementation, and support of scalable batch and streaming data solutions
- Create reusable approaches for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and access
- Connect data from APIs, databases, event streams, third-party platforms, and enterprise systems
- Contribute to architecture, solution design, code reviews, troubleshooting, and complex technical decisions
- Advance version control, automated testing, continuous integration, deployment automation, and infrastructure automation
- Define practices for data quality, validation, monitoring, lineage, and observability
- Improve the performance and cost efficiency of data pipelines, databases, queries, and storage
- Support production operations and lead critical incidents, root-cause investigations, and preventive improvements
- Work with product, architecture, engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to deliver data solutions
- Convert business and product priorities into technical roadmaps and actionable engineering work
- Lead or support planning, prioritization, estimation, and delivery
- Track risks, dependencies, resource requirements, and competing priorities
- Present progress, technical recommendations, risks, and dependencies to stakeholders and leadership
- Promote data governance, metadata management, lineage, classification, and data quality
- Maintain compliance with security, privacy, governance, and regulatory obligations
- Support cloud modernization, data platform transformation, automation, innovation, and responsible use of generative and agent-based AI
- Based on role level, support or lead hiring, onboarding, performance feedback, career development, and workforce planning
- Perform supervisory responsibilities

- At least 5 years designing, developing, and supporting data solutions, data pipelines, or enterprise software systems for the 5+ years opportunity
- At least 1 year providing technical leadership, mentoring, coaching, or project leadership for the 5+ years opportunity
- At least 7 years designing, developing, and supporting data solutions, data pipelines, or enterprise software systems for the 7+ years opportunity
- At least 3 years leading, mentoring, or managing technical professionals for the 7+ years opportunity
- Experience guiding engineers through technical mentorship and knowledge sharing
- Experience with coaching, performance management, career development, hiring, and team development
- Hands-on experience building data pipelines with Python, Java, Scala, or a comparable programming language
- Experience designing and supporting batch or streaming data systems
- Experience with Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, dbt, or comparable technologies
- Strong understanding of SQL, NoSQL databases, data modeling, and data storage or architecture concepts
- Experience integrating data from APIs, databases, event streams, third-party platforms, and enterprise systems
- Experience with automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, deployment automation, observability, and DevOps practices
- Experience using Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong communication, collaboration, decision-making, and stakeholder management abilities
- Ability to shape technical outcomes while balancing hands-on engineering, people leadership, and delivery accountability
- Successful completion of a background investigation
- Reliable internet service with minimum speeds of 50 MB download and 5 MB upload
- A dedicated, private home workspace with suitable desk and seating
