Technical Architect - Hybrid - The Hanover Insurance Group

Lead solution and technical architecture for The Hanover Insurance Group’s business systems. Design secure, scalable solutions and guide project teams from planning through delivery.

Description

  • Lead and facilitate solution and technical design for projects and programs
  • Direct high-level solution strategies and technical approaches across projects
  • Represent solution and technical design with project teams and architecture review boards
  • Own project solutions, technical architecture processes, and architecture documentation
  • Apply enterprise architecture principles, standards, and patterns at the project level
  • Consult with members of the architecture team as needed
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, business analysts, solution architects, information architects, and data architects to deliver business solutions
  • Define technical approaches, high-level designs, and detailed project designs in line with architectural standards
  • Apply approved tools and products consistently across projects
  • Promote and align applications and infrastructure with Secure Development Operations practices
  • Identify and document solution and technical-design nonfunctional requirements
  • Assist implementation, subject matter expert, and production support teams with troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Coordinate with the project manager on status reporting and resource estimates
  • Help identify and reduce risks affecting solution outcomes, systems, infrastructure, and business processes
  • Address security, performance, and data privacy through configuration and implementation reviews
  • Explain current system capabilities and proposed modifications to business users
  • Incorporate shared capabilities, products, software, and infrastructure into proposed solutions
  • Evaluate vendor and internal technical documentation for accuracy and business alignment
  • Review and approve technical specifications while supporting delivery processes
  • Mentor technical leads and developers in architecture and system design
  • Maintain compliance with approved software development methodologies
  • Operate across waterfall, agile, and hybrid software development life cycle approaches
  • Communicate technical and conceptual information while providing architecture leadership throughout projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship; lawful permanent residents and U.S. citizens are eligible
  • Two to five years of design and implementation experience in IT or consulting
  • Strong expertise in at least one of network design, security design, middleware, distributed systems, storage, endpoints, or database platforms
  • Familiarity with multiple technical configurations, technologies, and processing environments
  • Practical experience using Visio, PowerPoint, or comparable tools to create architecture diagrams and presentations
  • Experience with a range of business systems, technologies, and processing environments
  • At least five years of experience with database platforms and supporting infrastructure, including SQL, Oracle, or DB2
  • Understanding of how system and infrastructure changes affect related systems
  • Experience with different hardware and virtualization vendors and manufacturers
  • Strong teamwork, facilitation, collaboration, and negotiation skills
  • Strong planning, facilitation, and organizational capabilities
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to assess both strategic and tactical perspectives
  • Ability to convert business needs into solution and technical architecture requirements
  • Ability to estimate the financial effects of solution architecture alternatives
  • Ability to develop multiple solution options for business challenges
  • Knowledge of key aspects of The Hanover’s business
  • Basic understanding of information principles and policies
  • Insurance industry experience and product knowledge are preferred
