Systems Engineer II – Optical Space Instruments, Onsite

Honeywell Aerospace Technologies is seeking a Systems Engineer II to develop and validate spaceborne optical instruments. The role covers requirements, architectures, verification strategies, and integration for aerospace and defense missions.

Description

  • Define and allocate system requirements for optical instruments and payloads
  • Maintain requirements traceability and verification strategies across the product lifecycle
  • Control technical baselines and configuration activities
  • Support SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and ORR design reviews
  • Partner with optical, electronics, and software engineers on space-qualified instruments
  • Evaluate optical, thermal, pointing, radiometric, and electrical performance budgets
  • Support instrument architecture trade studies and technology assessments
  • Contribute to optical payload integration and validation planning
  • Prepare verification and validation plans for complex optical systems
  • Support integration, environmental qualification, and acceptance testing
  • Review test results for compliance with mission and customer requirements
  • Coordinate issue resolution and corrective actions during integration and testing
  • Contribute to mission concept development and operational planning
  • Support spacecraft and payload interface definition
  • Create and maintain Interface Control Documents
  • Participate in anomaly investigations and Root Cause Corrective Action activities
  • Coordinate with program managers, customers, suppliers, and partner organizations
  • Support technical reviews and customer presentations
  • Mentor junior engineers and advance engineering best practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Systems Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field
  • At least two years of experience in systems engineering, optical instrumentation, aerospace systems, or a related technical area
  • At least two years of experience developing and managing system requirements and verification plans
  • At least two years of knowledge of systems engineering processes and product development lifecycles
  • At least two years of experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain Controlled Goods Program and Contract Security Program clearances
  • Experience with space systems, spacecraft payloads, or optical instruments
  • Knowledge of imaging systems, spectrometers, laser systems, LIDAR, telescopes, or electro-optical payloads
  • Experience using IBM DOORS or an equivalent requirements management tool
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, STK, Model-Based Systems Engineering, or SysML
  • Knowledge of environmental qualification standards and space industry practices
  • Experience supporting design reviews, integration, verification, and validation
  • Familiarity with NASA, CSA, ESA, ECSS, or military aerospace standards
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities
