Software Engineering Supervisor - Hybrid, United States
Lead hands-on software engineering for Avalon Healthcare Solutions’ diagnostic intelligence platform. Guide teams in delivering scalable, secure healthcare technology while supporting improved clinical outcomes.
Description
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across the design, development, delivery, operation, and support of software products and services
- Contribute to coding, architecture, and software design decisions
- Address technical issues, problems, and escalations within the development team
- Track technology trends and promote continuous learning
- Mentor team members, provide coaching, and support career development
- Create development opportunities through stretch assignments, skill building, and exposure to emerging technologies
- Partner with product teams, architects, stakeholders, and senior leaders on product requirements and roadmaps
- Hold regular one-on-one meetings and conduct performance evaluations
- Coordinate the successful delivery of projects and initiatives
- Pursue ongoing self-study and professional training
- Assess staffing needs, participate in recruitment, and contribute to hiring decisions
Requirements
- At least two years of experience in a technical leadership position
- A relevant bachelor’s degree, or 10+ years of directly relevant experience in place of a degree
- Experience applying IT engineering, quality assurance, and automation best practices
- Experience in continuous improvement environments with a record of delivering substantial ongoing development
- Strong project management, problem-solving, organizational, relationship-building, communication, and negotiation abilities, both verbal and written
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced Agile environment using SAFe, Scrum, and Kanban
- Strong understanding of IT strategy and its connection to business objectives
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Previous hands-on experience as a technical lead or senior engineer
- Experience using agentic AI tools in software engineering
- Healthcare or insurance industry experience preferred
- Familiarity with healthcare data exchange, clinical workflows, and integration architectures preferred
- Working knowledge of AWS services preferred
- Experience collaborating remotely with employees and contractors preferred
- Ability to work effectively with offshore engineers
- Experience in an early-stage growth company is helpful
- Hands-on proof-of-concept development experience preferred
