Software Engineer, Distributed Systems and Networking

Build reliable backend services and integrations for Ford’s globally connected vehicle platform. Work across APIs, event-driven systems, security, observability, and partner onboarding.

Description

  • Help shape and deliver backend services that broker and coordinate API integrations across distributed systems
  • Build dependable APIs and event-driven workflows using REST/gRPC, webhooks, and Pub/Sub, with rate limiting, retries, backoff, and circuit breakers under senior engineering guidance
  • Develop authentication and authorization for service-to-service and partner integrations with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, mTLS, and JWT
  • Assist with secrets management and key rotation
  • Connect services to enterprise infrastructure, identity, networking, and observability platforms
  • Help establish secure network connectivity and private peering between environments
  • Define and track SLIs and SLOs while contributing to logging, tracing, and alerting
  • Take part in on-call rotations
  • Contribute to CI/CD workflows and infrastructure as code
  • Work with security, legal, privacy, enterprise architecture, and data teams
  • Join design and code reviews
  • Keep technical documentation and runbooks current
  • Help product and integration teams onboard partners through partner-facing contracts, SDKs, and sandbox and testing workflows

Requirements

  • At least three years of backend software engineering experience
  • Proficiency in one or more of Go, Java, or Python
  • Working knowledge of distributed-systems communication patterns, including REST/gRPC, asynchronous Pub/Sub messaging, and API-first design
  • Experience developing and supporting scalable, highly available production systems
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to develop technical leadership capabilities over time
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Experience building services for physical devices such as vehicles, phones, or other IoT products is a plus
