Description

  • Carry out industrial blasting and painting with approved marine coating systems
  • Apply coatings to contract specifications, including surface preparation standards, blast profiles, and millage requirements
  • Use blasting, painting, and coating equipment under supervisory direction
  • Inspect prepared surfaces and confirm coatings meet thickness, finish, and durability standards
  • Work in shipyard settings that may include elevated areas, confined spaces, and changing weather
  • Meet production demands across multiple shifts in a 24/7 manufacturing operation
  • Follow Ingalls safety procedures across all assigned tasks and work areas
  • Preserve ship structural integrity, reduce corrosion, and extend vessel service life

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience as a painter or blaster
  • Practical experience with industrial painting, blasting, or coating application
  • Knowledge of surface preparation standards, blast profiles, and coating millage requirements
  • Ability to operate blasting and painting tools and equipment safely and effectively
  • Ability to complete all blasting requirements and functions using every application
  • Ability to identify and correct blasting and painting deficiencies in line with contract specifications
  • Ability to connect airlines to the manifold and spray horizontally, vertically, and side to side
  • Ability to sandblast and demonstrate proper use of each component of the blasting equipment
  • Strong dedication to safety, quality, and skilled craftsmanship
  • Willingness to work in an active industrial setting supporting ship construction
  • Availability to work multiple shifts in a 24/7 manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and under varying weather conditions
