Senior Transmission Line Engineer — ICF (Remote, Illinois)

ICF is seeking a senior transmission line engineer to design and analyze electric utility transmission systems. The role covers complex studies, QA/QC, regulatory compliance, field support, and client delivery.

Description

  • Lead transmission line design from conceptual engineering through final design, including EFM, conductor sizing, induction, impedance, losses, and voltage-drop analysis.
  • Provide senior technical leadership while maintaining engineering accuracy, sound practices, and high-quality design solutions.
  • Complete conductor economic evaluations, lightning performance studies, grounding calculations, and electrical-clearance determinations under NESC and other applicable standards.
  • Interpret and apply NERC, FERC, and regional regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and review specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings, and purchase recommendations.
  • Partner with project managers on scope, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, construction support, and change-order management.
  • Perform and review QA/QC for engineering deliverables, production drawings, CAD outputs, and construction administration activities.
  • Investigate and resolve design-related field issues.
  • Lead field inspections, measurements, calculations, and installation reviews.
  • Prepare and present technical reports.
  • Contribute to marketing and business development activities.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with clients and contractors.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, civil, mechanical, power engineering, or a related field.
  • At least five years of transmission line engineering experience in design, analysis, modeling, or a similar area.
  • At least five years of experience with an electric utility, EPC, or engineering consulting firm.
  • At least five years of experience using PLS-CADD.
  • Knowledge of NESC, IEEE, ANSI, FERC-881, and FAC-008 standards.
  • Ability to plan and manage assignments while communicating barriers clearly and completing work within budget and schedule.
  • Ability to work effectively from a home office without direct supervision.
