Senior Systems Engineer, SME — Leidos, Tucson Onsite

Lead systems engineering for Leidos government programs, overseeing Chinook application architecture, cloud reliability, modernization, and technical strategy. Mentor engineering teams and guide mission-critical systems development.

Description

  • Act as the technical lead and systems engineering authority for the customer application
  • Establish system architecture, engineering standards, technical roadmaps, and modernization plans
  • Operate and maintain cloud-based applications for high availability, reliability, and performance
  • Monitor systems and resolve anomalies and complex technical problems
  • Create solutions that support system functionality and operational requirements
  • Assess ways to apply AI tools to troubleshooting and system monitoring
  • Lead requirements analysis, system design, integration, verification, and validation
  • Direct technical decisions across multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Assess emerging technologies and advise on innovative solutions
  • Identify technical risks, plan mitigations, and lead engineering trade studies
  • Mentor systems engineers and reinforce engineering best practices
  • Coordinate with program leaders and stakeholders to align solutions with mission goals
  • Advance system performance, scalability, security, and maintainability through continuous improvement
  • Work with end users and contractors supporting security, cloud provisioning, and external system interfaces
  • Provide technical feedback to development leads and test engineers
  • Maintain system documentation and brief end users and Government managers

Requirements

  • Hold an active Top Secret/SCI clearance and be able to pass a polygraph examination
  • Meet the contract's U.S. citizenship requirement
  • Have a bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 12–15 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with 10–13 years of relevant experience; a technical doctorate may also qualify
  • Bring at least 12 years of progressive systems engineering experience with software-intensive or enterprise systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and shape engineering strategy
  • Strong command of systems architecture, integration, lifecycle engineering, and systems thinking
  • Experience leading engineering work in Agile and DevSecOps environments
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and technical mentoring abilities
  • Experience supporting large-scale government or mission-focused programs
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve systems, or ideas for applying AI to the described responsibilities
  • Expertise in cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, and enterprise modernization
  • Systems Engineering Professional (SEP), INCOSE, CISSP, Security+, or comparable credentials
  • Proficiency with Python or C++ development, automation, and systems support
  • Experience using Linux for application deployment, automation, and systems support
  • Track record of leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across complex technical programs
