Senior Structural Engineer – Data Centers | AECOM | Remote, Virginia

Lead structural design for hyperscale and colocation data centers at AECOM, a global infrastructure consulting firm. The role covers analysis, documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and sustainable engineering.

Description

  • Lead structural design and analysis for hyperscale and colocation data center facilities
  • Prepare documentation for tilt-up and precast concrete, steel framing, and deep and shallow foundation systems
  • Coordinate structural deliverables with architectural, civil, MEP, and construction disciplines
  • Direct the development of construction documents, specifications, and engineering calculations
  • Maintain design quality, code compliance, and technical standards across projects
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while providing technical direction
  • Resolve technical questions and design clarifications with clients, contractors, and reviewing authorities
  • Contribute to business development, proposals, and conceptual structural designs for prospective projects
  • Travel as needed for client meetings, site visits, project milestones, onsite collaboration, and other business-critical activities
  • Partner with AECOM’s global data center teams on prominent projects for international clients

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least eight years of relevant building-structures design and analysis experience, or equivalent combined education and experience in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • Current U.S. Professional Engineer license, PE or SE
  • Background in data centers, mission-critical environments, or large-scale logistics and industrial facilities
  • Proficiency with BIM ACC, Revit, ETABS, RISA, RAM, SAP2000, SAFE, or comparable tools
  • Experience designing precast concrete, steel, seismic systems, and foundation structures
  • Practical experience applying low-embodied-carbon materials and sustainable structural design methods
  • Preferred: at least three years working on data center facilities, with knowledge of specialized design standards and structural resiliency requirements
  • Preferred: LEED or Envision credentials, or active leadership in SE 2050 implementation
  • Advanced knowledge of low-embodied-carbon materials, sustainable structural systems, and emerging industry practices
  • Strong communication, coordination, and leadership capabilities
  • Comfort working across multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams
  • Ability to interpret and apply national and local building codes
