Senior Structural Engineer – Bridges and Transportation, Hybrid Virginia

Lead bridge and transportation structure design for employee-owned AMT Engineering in a hybrid Virginia role. Manage complex projects, develop staff, and support DOT, municipal, county, and private-sector clients.

Description

  • Act as the lead technical professional on bridge and structural design assignments
  • Plan, direct, and monitor large multidisciplinary projects and technically complex bridge projects
  • Build client relationships and contribute to marketing, contract, design, and production meetings
  • Lead schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions with project managers, technical professionals, and other disciplines
  • Ensure deliverables and supporting documentation are complete, clear, and compliant with applicable standards and client and AMT requirements
  • Coordinate project staffing and workload to deliver documents on schedule
  • Participate in project reviews with the Business/Accounting Manager and Discipline or Managing Director
  • Apply QA/QC procedures and review bridge plans
  • Deliver training and professional development for staff
  • Mentor and supervise less-experienced project managers
  • Maintain professional engineering registration
  • Lead teams designing highway and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, load ratings, and related structures
  • Support transportation structural projects for state DOTs, counties, municipalities, and private clients
  • Contribute to related structural projects in other states through the interoffice staff utilization program

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or eligibility to obtain one through reciprocity within six months of hire
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience analyzing and designing new and rehabilitated structures
  • At least 15 years of project and client management experience, including significant project work and established client contacts
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated business development and strategic planning capabilities
  • Strong communication, leadership, planning, and mentoring abilities
  • Excellent organization, project management, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to conduct hands-on bridge condition inspections and work comfortably at heights
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed, including occasional week-long trips
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment, post-offer background check
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, project managers, supervisors, and team members
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to travel across unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment
  • Ability to work in extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather
  • Preferred experience with LEAP Bridge Enterprise, LARSA 4D, LPile, MDX, Descus, AASHTOWare BrR, Merlin DASH, spColumn, PennDOT software packages, Bentley MicroStation, and/or OpenRoads/Bridge software
