Senior Staff Software Engineer, OTA (Hybrid)

Lead Ford’s Rust-based over-the-air update platform for electric vehicles. Build safe, reliable orchestration across embedded firmware, vehicle software, and cloud systems.

Description

  • Lead the evolution of Ford’s over-the-air software update engine
  • Design dependable orchestration logic for safe vehicle software updates
  • Develop production-grade asynchronous Rust with a focus on correctness, safety, and maintainability
  • Create and improve developer tools for authoring and managing software update deployments
  • Support CI/CD workflows, container infrastructure, and builds targeting multiple platforms
  • Review code with particular attention to correctness and operational reliability
  • Coordinate end-to-end update flows with embedded firmware, vehicle software, and cloud engineering teams
  • Develop software that keeps Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle fleet current
  • Implement OTA orchestration for ECU download, verification, installation, and activation workflows

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field
  • At least five years of professional software engineering experience
  • At least three years of production Rust development, or strong demonstrable C++ expertise with a clear willingness to adopt Rust
  • Proficiency in asynchronous programming, including the Tokio runtime and concurrent systems design
  • Solid experience with Linux systems
  • Experience designing and implementing state machines for distributed or embedded systems
  • Strong testing practices, including unit, integration, and mock-based testing
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and modern build systems
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Visa sponsorship is available
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
