Senior SQL Server DBA, AWS Storage

Description

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server instances in production and non-production environments.
  • Design and implement backup, disaster recovery, and high availability strategies.
  • Manage and optimize AWS storage services for databases and related workloads.
  • Plan and execute migrations of on-premises databases to AWS.
  • Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks, and tune queries, indexes, and execution plans.
  • Implement security policies, data encryption, and access controls.
  • Automate tasks with T-SQL and PowerShell scripts and/or infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Manage storage capacity, forecast growth, and optimize AWS costs.
  • Document architectures, operating procedures, and administration policies.
  • Work with infrastructure, development, and security teams.
  • Provide support and resolve incidents, including after-hours on-call duties when needed.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience as a DBA, focused on Microsoft SQL Server.
  • At least 3 years of experience with AWS storage services such as EBS, S3, EFS, FSx, or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience migrating databases to the cloud is preferred.
  • Experience with high availability and mission-critical environments.
  • Advanced SQL Server administration skills, including installation, configuration, security, backup and restore, and performance tuning.
  • Advanced T-SQL skills, including stored procedures, functions, triggers, and query optimization.
  • Knowledge of AWS storage services, including EBS, S3, EFS, and FSx.
  • Knowledge of RDS and EC2 is preferred.
  • Understanding of cloud networking and security concepts, including VPC, IAM, KMS, and Security Groups.
  • Scripting experience with PowerShell and/or Bash.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as SQL Server Management Studio, CloudWatch, or similar.
  • AWS and/or Microsoft SQL Server certifications are preferred.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems under pressure.
  • Proactive approach and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Focus on continuous improvement and optimizing costs and resources.
