Senior Software Engineer, AI Testing and Automation — Sun Life, Waterloo Hybrid

Senior Software Engineer helping advance Sun Life’s agentic quality engineering platform. The role focuses on AI-assisted testing, developer tools, APIs, and engineering automation.

Description

  • Create, test, maintain, and enhance software for the agentic quality engineering orchestration platform.
  • Build AI-enabled features that strengthen engineering productivity and software quality.
  • Design agentic workflows for testing, automation, and software delivery.
  • Connect AI agents with engineering tools, test frameworks, and platform services.
  • Advance AI-assisted testing and engineering automation capabilities.
  • Partner with engineering teams to identify platform enhancements and opportunities for innovation.
  • Develop APIs, services, and applications according to modern engineering practices.
  • Contribute to technical design decisions and improvements to platform architecture.
  • Help establish platform standards, reusable components, and engineering best practices.
  • Conduct experiments and proof-of-concept work with emerging technologies and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Apply Agile delivery methods and continuous feedback to refine platform capabilities.
  • Share expertise, collaborate with colleagues, and support technical development across the team.
  • Assist platform users with troubleshooting, technical guidance, and enablement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, college diploma, or equivalent practical experience in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of experience designing, developing, and supporting software in Agile delivery environments.
  • Experience designing, building, integrating, or supporting AI agents, agentic workflows, and AI-enabled software.
  • Experience creating developer tools or integrations with large language models, including IDE extensions, Model Context Protocol, tool-calling APIs, and prompt or context engineering.
  • Advanced Python skills plus experience with Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or C#.
  • Experience designing and developing APIs, services, integrations, and automation solutions.
  • Working knowledge of test automation tools such as Playwright, Bruno/REST, PyETL, JUnit, Jest, pytest, or xUnit.
  • Experience with source control, branching strategies, and Git-based software delivery workflows.
  • Experience using PostgreSQL and applying modern data modeling principles.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and current application deployment patterns, especially AWS.
  • Familiarity with Docker and containerized development environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Preferred: experience applying AI and agentic capabilities to testing, quality engineering, or software delivery.
  • Preferred: familiarity with agent governance, evaluation frameworks, observability, and responsible AI practices.
  • Preferred: experience with workflow automation, engineering productivity platforms, and developer enablement tools.
  • Preferred: experience encouraging technology adoption through communities of practice, onboarding, coaching, or enablement.
