Senior Rust Software Engineer (Remote, Poland)

Lead development of Kraken’s consumer crypto applications as a senior Rust engineer. Build backend services for trading, payments, and user experiences at global scale.

Description

  • Set the technical direction for Kraken’s Consumer applications
  • Own the architecture and delivery of customer-facing Rust backend services supporting trading, payments, and crypto experiences
  • Make architectural decisions that support durable, reliable systems
  • Guide ambiguous, multi-quarter initiatives from initial validation through launch and measurement
  • Decompose complex problems so team members can execute work in parallel
  • Own features end to end, including the customer experience, frontend implications, and underlying product problem
  • Collaborate with product leadership on roadmaps and product decisions
  • Take accountability for product outcomes and metrics
  • Lead initiatives across Kraken’s trading infrastructure, platform, and other product teams
  • Build cross-team relationships and technical alignment
  • Mentor mid-level engineers
  • Review designs before implementation begins
  • Remove blockers and establish reusable engineering patterns and standards
  • Use AI to expand engineering scope and accelerate delivery while orchestrating and validating implementations

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of backend engineering experience
  • Advanced Rust expertise covering network services, asynchronous programming, and distributed systems design
  • Experience with RPC protocols, Kafka, and event-driven architectures
  • Demonstrated ownership of production systems and architectural decision-making
  • Product engineering experience spanning problem definition, implementation, launch, and user impact
  • Evidence of impact through mentoring, design reviews, technical writing, or engineering standards
  • Experience leading work across multiple teams or organizations
  • Meaningful experience using AI for coding, navigating unfamiliar codebases, working across technical boundaries, and validating implementations
  • An ownership mindset with the ability to work across backend and frontend boundaries
  • Full-stack experience with React/TypeScript or another frontend framework is a plus
  • Knowledge of cryptocurrency or blockchain systems is a plus
  • Experience building and scaling consumer-focused products is a plus
  • Experience introducing AI tools or workflows to an engineering team is a plus
