Senior Platform Software Engineer, Networking and Security at HPE

Build embedded networking, routing, and security software for high-performance systems at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Diagnose complex system issues and shape hardware-software integration across hybrid engineering teams.

Description

  • Create and debug software enhancements and new capabilities for high-performance networking and security products
  • Develop operating-system, routing-engine, security-module, embedded-platform, and Internet-related software
  • Assess hardware compatibility and help guide hardware designs for network-interface and link-layer protocols
  • Implement updates and programming changes across networking software, operating systems, components, and security functions
  • Build and maintain network interfaces, protocols, security capabilities, and underlying SoC SDKs or drivers
  • Interpret design requirements, define coding and integration work, and participate in architecture reviews
  • Carry out testing, verification activities, and technical documentation
  • Troubleshoot defects and recommend product improvements
  • Partner with hardware, QA, system test, and customer-facing teams
  • Resolve complex field problems through log analysis, system-level investigation, and cross-layer teamwork
  • Maintain and enhance existing capabilities as part of sustaining engineering
  • Offer technical direction and coordinate work with team members and cross-functional partners

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Five to eight years of experience in networking, embedded systems, or high-performance security platforms
  • Proficiency in C or C++ and Python
  • Hands-on experience with switches, routers, and security systems
  • Experience developing for multicore embedded platforms, including network interfaces, protocol processing, and security functions
  • Solid knowledge of operating-system internals, virtualization, computer architecture, and system-level debugging
  • Experience in Unix or Linux environments and hardware-software integration
  • Familiarity with software testing practices, test-plan execution, and debugging tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, mentor colleagues, and support a high-performance engineering culture
  • Preferred: Experience with link-layer protocols such as LACP, LLDP, or EAPOL
  • Preferred: Experience using Broadcom or Marvell SDKs for switching or network-interface subsystems
  • Preferred: Experience applying AI tools to coding assistance and intelligent debugging
  • Preferred: Knowledge of AI/ML methods for anticipating software or hardware failures
